The landscape of music has changed so much in the last few years. From the days of A&R’s, record deals and street teams, the music industry is experiencing an upheaval of sorts as they have seen significant decrease in music sales. People are just not buying music these days… at least not from “greedy” record executives, as many people have often label record company executives. Strangely enough, this is good news for you!
If you are an independent artist, you can use the power of the internet to do incredible things. By the way, this is an UNDERSTATEMENT. With platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, and Bestcamdance, you DON’T need the record companies anymore. You can promote your music yourself! You can distribute and sell your music yourself! It does not matter the type of music you are into. If you are an aspiring rock musician, you can promote your rock band for free online and get your band known. And of course, if you are into hip hop, you can do the same thing. You don’t need a record deal.
You heard that right, you don’t need a $@%% record deal… Don’t believe me, here is Cassidy himself telling you:
Oh, and by the way, here’s the blue-print to selling your music online. Follow them and you will be successful.
Establish Your Online Presence
The best way to do this is to set up your own website. You might be thinking, however, that you are a musician and not a web designer, so how in the world are you going to be able to pull this off? Fortunately, there are sites such as Bestcamdance that can give you your own web space where you can upload anything and everything about your band – your songs, pictures, videos, and other merchandise all available for anyone to see.
Build Your Network and Make Your Presence Known
Nope! We’re not talking about renting an auditorium and hoping that enough people show up for your gig. Once you have all your stuff online, the next thing you need is to promote your site and invite people to visit it and listen to your music. There are lots of ways on how you can do this. Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube can let you share your music to everyone all over the world. And you cannot deny the fact that a lot of people have already been made famous by these tools. Wikipedia even has a list of celebrities who found their success through YouTube. You can find the list here . Yes, you will see that Justin Bieber (the “Beeb”) was discovered through YouTube!
Share Your Music to the World
Now that you have reserved your spot online, you need to start promoting your site and reach your fans worldwide. Through e-mail marketing, you can send a message to all your fans with a push of the button. Perhaps you have setup a Facebook Fanpage to help you engage your fans. Provide a spot online where fans can download some of your music and share it with your friends
Now, it’s all up to you if you want to do this on your own. Truthfully, it is not as easy as it sounds; you need a guide or music marketing blue print. Even then, you might find yourself spending a lot of time keeping up with your online promotion efforts
What’s good to know is that you will not have to deal with managers who want a cut from each gig you make or from each record album you sell. You will not have to bow down to record labels who would just give you a measly royalty fee while they rip off huge profits from your music. Speaking of rip-offs, check this link, http://www.informationisbeautiful.net/2010/how-much-do-music-artists-earn-online/ You will see EXACTLY why you should sell your own music online
Good music is better when it is shared to the world. Thanks to the Internet, sharing your music to the world and getting famous has never been this easy. And because of experts, such as Bestcamdance, who believes that music is mean to be shared and enjoyed, you can focus on making beautiful music.
